Two critically injured after overnight incident in Glendene
Two people were taken to hospital in a critical condition after what police say appears to have been a stabbing in the West Auckland suburb of Glendene in the early hours of Sunday, October 5, 2026. Emergency services were called to Kirby Street at about 11:40 pm on Saturday following reports of disorder at a residential address.
Police find three people with apparent knife wounds
Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie of the Waitematā Criminal Investigation Branch said officers who attended found three people with injuries that appeared consistent with knife wounds. Two of those were transported to hospital in a critical condition. The third person suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.
St John ambulance service confirmed it sent three ambulances, two critical care units and an operations manager to the scene. Footage and images published by local media showed a heavy police presence in the neighbourhood while crews worked at the property.
Investigation under way, police not seeking others
Goldie said the investigation is at an early stage and police were not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Residents were told to expect an increased police presence in the area while inquiries continue.
At this stage police have given no public indication of motive, the relationship between those involved, or whether any arrests have been made. Investigators are likely to conduct house to house inquiries, examinations of the scene and take statements from witnesses and neighbours as inquiries progress.
What this means for the community
Glendene is part of West Auckland, an area that has seen a mix of violent and disorder incidents in recent years. A violent incident of this scale, with two people critically injured, is likely to heighten local concern about public safety and draw significant police and health service resources. Police statements that they are not currently seeking anyone else aim to reassure the public that there is not an ongoing threat, but the increased patrols will be visible in the short term.
As with all live investigations, the facts may change as police gather evidence and speak to witnesses. Authorities will release more information as it becomes available, including whether charges are to be laid and any further details about the victims and how they are connected to one another.
How readers can follow updates
People in the area who may have information are asked to contact New Zealand Police to assist inquiries, and anyone with immediate security concerns should call 111. Local media and official police channels are expected to publish updates as the investigation develops.
